The Sarnia Legionnaires survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Marys Lincolns on the way to a 2-1 win. Sarnia made the score 2-0 on a goal by Tyler Longo at 7:02 in the second period, and St. Marys got as close as 2-1 when Sean O`Brien scored 49 seconds into the third period. The Legionnaires were led by goalie Hunter Johnson, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Johnson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.16 prior to the game. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:45 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Sarnia forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Legionnaires had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Sarnia's offense operated below its season average. The Legionnaires put an average of 5.1 pucks into the net per game. Sarnia also got a goal from Riley Babkirk as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Davis Boyer, who had two and Cody Trowell and Cameron Clarke, who contributed one each. The Lincolns' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. St. Marys surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Sarnia was unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Team could not crack the Legionnaires' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Mitch Read and Graham Brulotte, who each chipped in one. Sarnia registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Babkirk and PJ Vandervaart were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Tyler Beattie rejected 23 shots on goal for the Lincolns. St. Marys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colin Nancekivell was ejected from the game.
