Waterloo outlasts Listowel, 4-2

The game between the Waterloo Siskins and the Listowel Cyclones was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Waterloo emerged with a 4-2 win.

The Siskins gained the winning advantage on a goal by Christian Mroczkowski 16:35 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Mroczkowski had two goals and one assist to lead Waterloo.

The Siskins managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Waterloo wound up below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Siskins' offense rang up 31 shots on Listowel's net.

Waterloo additionally got points from Danny Hanlon, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Eric Cimino, Evan Kearns, Chase Campbell, and Josh De Farias, who contributed one each.

The Cyclones put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Waterloo to score on any of its four power plays. Listowel kept the Siskins' goalie busy throughout the game, and Evgeny Kiselev made 32 saves on 34 shots.

The Cyclones were helped by Tim Nauta, who tallied one goal. Nauta scored 13:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Derek Elliot provided the assist. Blake Pickering also scored for Listowel. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Brady Anderson, Ben VanOotegham, and Kevin Gergley, who each chipped in one.

Listowel's Ryan Hergott stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Cyclones incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
