The Thorold Blackhawks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Niagara Falls Canucks held on for a 3-1 victory. Niagara Falls made the score 3-0 on a goal by Austin Wright at 12:02 in the third period, and Thorold got as close as 3-1 when Kyle Langdon scored 17:24 into the third period. The Canucks were led by goalie Dylan Pietrangelo, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Pietrangelo certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.96 entering the contest. Niagara Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Canucks kept the Blackhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Astorino made 33 saves on 36 shots. Niagara Falls was helped by Matthew Mannella, who had one goal. Mannella scored on the power play 5:08 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls. An interference penalty on Langdon had put the Canucks on the power play. Trevor Simonick provided the assist. Niagara Falls also got points from Mac Hollowell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Frank Pucci, Nigel Slade, and Zack Lansfield, who each chipped in one. In addition, Thorold received assists from Scott Dorion, who had one. Niagara Falls incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Thorold incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
