Thorold sunk by penalties, falls to St. Catharines 8-2

A rash of penalties cost the Thorold Blackhawks the game, as the St. Catharines Falcons netted five goals with a man advantage in an 8-2 win.

St. Catharines was paced by Tyler Hildebrant, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hildebrant scored 8:35 into the second period to make the score 3-1 St. Catharines. Jake Evans picked up the assist.

The Falcons kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 29 saves on 37 shots. St. Catharines surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Falcons average 4.5 goals per contest.

St. Catharines also got points from Tyler Morrison, who also registered one goal and two assists, Tyler Jackson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ryan Doucette, who also had two goals and one assist, and Nick Halagian, who also finished with one goal and two assists. St. Catharines also got a goal from Nicholas Dozzi as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Manny Manns, who had two and Justin Felker, Brady Cranwell, Broderick Kelly, and Scott Grieve, who contributed one each.

The Blackhawks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Thorold had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Blackhawks were helped by Anthony Postiglione, who registered one goal. Postiglione scored on the power play 12:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A holding stick penalty on Hildebrant had put Thorold on the power play. Scott Dorion assisted on the tally. Thorold additionally got points from Tyler Sehovic, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Thorold received assists from Kyle Langdon and Vito Scaringi, who each chipped in one.

Jonathan D Ilario recorded 13 saves for St. Catharines. The Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Blackhawks registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Thorold, Scaringi was ejected from the game.
