Kawalec leads Kitchener over Waterloo, 8-5

Adam Kawalec had four goals and one assist to lead the Kitchener Dutchmen to an 8-5 victory over the Waterloo Siskins.

Kawalec's first goal came 13:59 into the second period. He then added goals at 17:03 into the second, at 2:39 into the third, and at 3:07 into the third.

Waterloo's 13 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Siskins let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Kitchener forced Waterloo goalie Evgeny Kiselev to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Dutchmen surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Kitchener averages 4.3 goals per contest. The Dutchmen's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Kitchener finished with 40 penalty minutes.

Kitchener additionally got points from Alex Demrovsky, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Connor Cole, who also grabbed two goals and two assists. Nic Hague also scored for Kitchener. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Jordan Delaurier, who had two, Harrison Domagala, Sean Allen, Mitchell Smith, and Matt Scott, who each chipped in one, and Kyle Ellis and Keegan Calder, who contributed three each.

The Siskins' offense rang up 31 shots on the Dutchmen's net. Waterloo could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Siskins were helped by Christian Mroczkowski, who racked up one goal and two assists. Mroczkowski scored 14:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. Danny Hanlon picked up the assist. Waterloo also got points from Evan Kearns, who also registered one goal and one assist and Chase Campbell, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Waterloo included Matt Doty and Kyle Betts, who scored one goal each. More assists for Waterloo came via Nick Hirst, who had one and Gary Mantz, who had two.

Kitchener's Jackson McIntosh stopped 26 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Evgeny Kiselev made 31 saves for Waterloo on 38 shots. The Siskins registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
