Chatham shrugs off penalties, upends St. Thomas, 4-0Chatham Memorial Arena Sun, Nov 09, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Thomas Stars failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Chatham Maroons shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-0. Chatham was paced by Brennan Feasey, who registered one goal and one assist. Feasey scored 9:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Trevor Richardson picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:14 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Maroons forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Chatham surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Maroons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Thomas to score on any of its eight power plays. The Stars were unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Chatham additionally got points from Richardson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jared Dennis also scored for Chatham. More assists for Chatham came via Connor McKinnon and Michael Verboom, who each chipped in one and Brayden Hopkins and Steven Beenackers, who contributed two each. St. Thomas did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Stars average 3.2 goals per game. Chatham's Bo Bessette stopped 23 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Maroons registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Chatham, Connor Doran and Verboom were ejected from the contest. Nikolas Dampier rejected 33 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For St. Thomas, Dane Johnstone was ejected from the game.
