Elmira holds on for 4-3 win against Guelph

The Elmira Sugar Kings survived a determined comeback attempt by the Guelph Hurricanes on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Rob Kohli put Elmira up 4-2 in the third period, but Guelph pulled to within one on Peyton Backus's tally 12:36 into the third period.

Kohli was all over the ice for the Sugar Kings, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Kohli scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Sam Natale had put Elmira on the power play. Mitch Wright assisted on the tally. Kohli's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Elmira with 12:24 left in the third period. Wright provided the assist.

The Sugar Kings kept the Hurricanes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason DaSilva made 28 saves on 32 shots. Elmira cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on four chances. The Sugar Kings struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Elmira also got points from Alex Mutton, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Klayton Hoelscher also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Mac Clutsam, who had two and Adam Brubacher and Cash Seraphim, who each chipped in one.

Elmira was unable to stop Guelph from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Guelph included Sheehan Kirkwood and Mackenzie Flewelling, who scored one goal each. In addition, Guelph received assists from Patrick Kudla, Cameron Stokes, Ryan Migliaccio, and Michael Courvoisier, who contributed one each.

Andrew Lefebvre recorded 40 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zac Coulter was ejected from the game. Guelph incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
