Niagara Falls downs Ancaster in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Austin Wright gave the Niagara Falls Canucks a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Ancaster Avalanche when he scored 41 seconds into the extra period.

Wright had a great game for Niagara Falls, netting two goals.

Team could not crack Ancaster's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Matthew Mannella and Trevor Simonick, who scored one goal each. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Sean Farquharson, who had three and Kevin Millejours, Nigel Slade, and Zack Lansfield, who contributed one each.

The Avalanche forced the Canucks goalie Joseph Murdaca to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Ancaster was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 42 penalty minutes.

The Avalanche were led by Blake Luscombe, who tallied one goal and one assist. Luscombe scored on the power play 8:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ancaster had gotten the advantage when Niagara Falls' Zachary Plumb was sent off for roughing. Ryan Knill provided the assist. Ancaster also had goals scored by Michael Pollice and Max Balinson, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Cole Nagy, Hayden Guitard, and Ben Hughes, who each chipped in one.

Joseph Murdaca made 34 saves for the Canucks on 37 shots. Niagara Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Canucks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matthew Thorpe was ejected from the game. The Avalanche's Matt Calas stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Ancaster registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Avalanche, Nagy was ejected from the game.
