Chatham squeaks by Sarnia, 4-3

The Chatham Maroons and the Sarnia Legionnaires were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Chatham made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brayden Hopkins at 3:54 of the third period.

Jared Dennis was all over the ice for the Maroons, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Dennis scored the first of his two goals at 1:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Brennan Feasey picked up the assist. Dennis' next tally made the score 3-2 Chatham with 13:58 left in the second period. Steven Beenackers provided the assist.

Sarnia's power play was ineffective against Chatham's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Legionnaires were unable to stop the Maroons from sending pucks towards the net, and Chatham eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Trevor Richardson also scored for Chatham. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Nate Pietens, Brett Storr, and Alexander Morgan, who contributed one each.

Sarnia did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Legionnaires average 5.3 goals per game.

Sarnia was helped by Riley Babkirk, who finished with one goal. Babkirk scored 18:55 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Ryan Vendramin assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Sarnia included Jay Clarke and Cody Trowell, who each put in one. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Jake O`Donnell, who had two and Nathan Mater, Davis Boyer, and Riley Roberts, who each chipped in one.

The Maroons' Bo Bessette stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Chatham incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Levesque was ejected from the game. Hunter Johnson rejected 35 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. Sarnia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
