Kitchener survives Stratford comeback, wins 4-3

The Stratford Cullitons tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Kitchener Dutchmen held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Philip Moser put Kitchener up 4-2 in the second period, but Stratford pulled to within one on Joe Leahy's tally 9:56 into the third period.

Alex Demrovsky had two goals to lead the Dutchmen to victory. Demrovsky's tallies came on the power play at 1:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stratford and short handed 3:50 into the second to make the score 3-2 Kitchener.

Kitchener was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 11 man advantages. The Dutchmen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kitchener additionally got points from Jordan Delaurier, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Nathan Grossi, Nick Trecroce, and Adam Kawalec, who contributed one each and Kyle Ellis and Mitchell Smith, who each chipped in two.

The Cullitons kept Kitchener's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jackson McIntosh made 35 saves on 38 shots. Stratford was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 66 penalty minutes.

The Cullitons were helped by Trevor Sauder, who registered one goal. Sauder scored 20 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford. Hayden Broomhead picked up the assist. Stratford also got points from Mitch Brooks, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Stratford came via Shane O Brien, Jake Pleon, Nathan Templeman, and Justin Graham, who contributed one each.

For the Dutchmen, Grossi was ejected from the game. Nick Redman made 26 saves for Stratford on 30 shots. The Cullitons registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Stratford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and O Brien was ejected from the game.
