Ancaster hangs on, beats St. Catharines 4-2Morgan Firestone Sat, Nov 01, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Blake Luscombe gave the Ancaster Avalanche the lead in the first period, and the St. Catharines Falcons was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2. Ancaster took over the lead for good with a goal by Luscombe at 6:33 in the first period. A high sticking penalty on Brandon Cercone had put the Avalanche on the power play. Lucas Triemstra provided the assist.Ancaster was led by Zach Maciel, who had one goal. Maciel scored 3:44 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ancaster. Ben Hughes assisted on the tally. In a losing effort, St. Catharines was led by Tyler Hildebrant, who racked up two goals. Hildebrant scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ancaster. The Falcons had gained a power play chance when Lucas Pozzobon was whistled for high sticking. Cercone picked up the assist. Hildebrant's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Ancaster with 4:26 left in the third period. St. Catharines had gotten the advantage when the Avalanche's Michael Faliero was sent off for slashing. Manny Manns assisted on the tally. Ancaster additionally got points from Hughes, who also registered one goal and one assist and Luscombe, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ancaster also got a goal from Ryan Sullivan as well. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Blake Richard, Hayden Guitard, Spencer Leenders, and Owen Burnell, who contributed one each. The Falcons did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Catharines puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Falcons kept Ancaster's goalie busy throughout the game, and Richard made 43 saves on 45 shots. St. Catharines had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. More assists for St. Catharines came via Broderick Kelly, who had one. The Avalanche incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Ancaster ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Guitard was ejected from the game. The Falcons took out Jonathan D Ilario after he had made five saves and installed Zach Moore in goal, where he finished with 20 saves and the loss. St. Catharines incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Falcons, Tyler Morrison was ejected from the game.
