Waterloo downs Stratford in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Waterloo Siskins' Eric Cimino scored 19 seconds into overtime to beat the Stratford Cullitons, 5-4 (OT).

Although Waterloo was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Stratford kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Cullitons got to within 4-3 on a goal by Shane O Brien at 14:35 in the third period.

The Siskins was paced on offense by Christian Mroczkowski and Cimino, who combined for four points. Mroczkowski grabbed two goals and Cimino also added one goal and one assist.

Waterloo's offense rang up 33 shots on Stratford's net. The Siskins were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of nine man advantages. The defensemen of Waterloo were also effective in the Cullitons' zone, and came away with two goals.

Waterloo additionally got points from Cimino, who also registered one goal and one assist and Danny Hanlon, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from Jordan Kreller as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Matt Martin, Nick Hirst, Luke Gazzola, Connor Bodnar, and Chase Campbell, who each chipped in one.

Stratford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cullitons finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Stratford also got points from Mitch Brooks, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Hayden Broomhead, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Stratford received assists from Jared Nash, who had two and Austin Huizenga, Carter Allen, and Trevor Sauder, who contributed one each.

The Siskins' Evgeny Kiselev stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Waterloo incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nicholas Caldwell rejected 28 shots on goal for Stratford. The Cullitons registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Stratford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyson Baker was ejected from the game.
