Elmira beats Guelph 5-0 as Reinhart gains shutout

Jonathan Reinhart recorded a shutout against the Guelph Hurricanes as the Elmira Sugar Kings picked up a 5-0 win.

Elmira's penalty kill excelled, as the Sugar Kings gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:03 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Elmira stifled Guelph's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Sugar Kings was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Elmira averages 2.7 goals allowed per game. The Hurricanes were unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Sugar Kings were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 25 penalty minutes.

Elmira was helped by Alex Mutton, who tallied one goal. Mutton scored 14:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Mac Clutsam provided the assist. Others who scored for Elmira included Zac Coulter, who had two and Rob Kohli and Ethan Skinner, who scored one goal each. In addition, Elmira received assists from Brodie Whitehead, Adam Brubacher, Eric Palazzolo, and Mitch Wright, who each chipped in one and Mitch Klie and Jamie Huber, who contributed two each.

Guelph racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Hurricanes had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Guelph was held below its usual level of production. The Hurricanes average 3.1 goals per game. Guelph forced the Sugar Kings goalie Reinhart to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Jonathan Reinhart made 33 saves for Elmira on 33 shots. The Sugar Kings registered two goals on 12 power play opportunities. Team's Clutsam and Cash Seraphim were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Jeremie Lintner rejected 28 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. For Guelph, Craig Martini and Dylan Sayle were ejected from the contest.
