Welland vanquishes Niagara Falls in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Welland Jr. Canadians defeated the Niagara Falls Canucks in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Niagara Falls' shootout goal was scored by Frank Pucci. In addition to the clincher, Welland got a shootout goal from JC Thivierge.

The Jr. Canadians came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Welland was down 3-2 after a power play goal by the Canucks' Trevor Simonick at 11:58 in the third period. The Jr. Canadians knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Josh Allan at 16:03 in the third period.

Welland's penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Canadians gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Welland additionally got points from Jack Fitzgerald, who also registered one goal and one assist. Matt Cuglietta also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Brayden Stortz, who had two.

Niagara Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Canucks kept Welland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Janzen made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Niagara Falls also got points from Austin Wright, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Tanner Allen as well. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Matthew Mannella, Mac Hollowell, Colton Anstey, and Cesare Caldaroni, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Canadians incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Dylan Pietrangelo recorded 26 saves for Niagara Falls. The Canucks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
