Duarte's big game bests Sarnia in 7-2 Leamington win

Behind a great game by Tyler Duarte, who had two goals and one assist, the Leamington Flyers defeated the Sarnia Legionnaires, 7-2.

Duarte scored at 17:36 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Leamington and again while 8:47 into the third to make the score 6-2 Leamington.

Leamington's offense rang up 40 shots on Sarnia's net. The Flyers outdid their season average for goals scored. Leamington has scored at the pace of 4.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Leamington additionally got points from Chris Scott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Kyle Quick, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Kyle Perkowski, who also registered one goal and one assist. Leamington also had goals scored by Cale Phibbs and Matthew Opblinger, who scored one goal each. In addition, Leamington received assists from Mitchell Amante, who had one and Eric Henderson and Alex Friesen, who contributed two each.

The Legionnaires put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their three power plays. Sarnia was held below its usual level of production. The Legionnaires put an average of 5.6 pucks into the net per game.

Sarnia was helped by Brandon Layman, who had one goal. Layman scored 4:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia. Jake O`Donnell assisted on the tally. Sarnia also got a goal from Riley Roberts as well. More assists for Sarnia came via Cody Trowell, who had one.

Trevor Wheaton made 25 saves for Leamington on 27 shots. The Flyers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Cornel Felder recorded 33 saves for the Legionnaires. Sarnia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
