Huge game by Sorrentino boosts Pelham over Niagara Falls, 8-4

Anthony Sorrentino had two goals and two assists to lead the Pelham Pirates to an 8-4 victory over the Niagara Falls Canucks.

Sorrentino's tallies came at 4:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pelham and short handed 11:14 into the second to make the score 5-1 Pelham.

Pelham forced Canucks' goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 40 shots and forcing 32 saves. Joseph Murdaca made 13 stops and Dylan Pietrangelo made 19. The Pirates stifled Niagara Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pelham bested its season scoring average. The Pirates have scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Pelham also got points from Ciaran Morgan, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Nick Carniello, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Riley Quesnelle, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Riley O Connell, who also registered two goals and one assist. Jesse Hewak also scored for Pelham. In addition, Pelham received assists from Brock Ackerman, who had three and Daniel Volpatti, Shawn Rooke, Kyle Degiuli, Thomas Young, and Brayden Tworyczuck, who contributed one each.

The Canucks' offense rang up 44 shots on Pelham's net. Niagara Falls excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing the Pirates to get one power play goal on 14 chances. The defensemen of the Canucks were also effective in Pelham's zone, and came away with two goals. Niagara Falls could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Canucks were led by Trevor Simonick, who had one goal and two assists. Simonick scored 16:53 into the second period to make the score 6-3 Pelham. Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Matthew Mannella, Matthew Thorpe, and Austin Wright, who each put in one. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Frank Pucci, Kevin Millejours, Colton Anstey, and Christian Lea, who each chipped in one.

Tynan Lauziere recorded 40 saves for the Pirates. Pelham incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Niagara Falls registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
