Welland stifles Thorold's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The Thorold Blackhawks almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Welland Jr. Canadians managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Welland led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Jr. Canadians' Jack Fitzgerald scored at 5:21 in the second period to put Welland up 4-1.

The Jr. Canadians got the win with help from a great game by Brayden Stortz, who had one goal and two assists. Stortz scored 1:46 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Welland.

Welland stifled Thorold's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Canadians kept the Blackhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 36 saves on 40 shots.

Welland also got points from Fitzgerald, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Adam Barron, who also registered one goal and one assist. Welland also got a goal from Tyler Stranges as well. In addition, Welland received assists from Kris Melna and Nathan MacDuff, who each chipped in one.

Thorold could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 58 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Blackhawks were helped by Anthony Postiglione, who had one goal. Postiglione scored 6:04 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Welland. Connor Timmins provided the assist. Mitchell Mendonca also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Vito Scaringi, who had one.

Brandon McCorriston rejected 25 shots on goal for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Thorold registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. For the Blackhawks, Scaringi and Postiglione were ejected from the contest.
