Strathroy holds on for 3-2 win against Sarnia

The Sarnia Legionnaires tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Strathroy Rockets held on for a 3-2 victory.

Strathroy took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Sarnia storm back on a Cody Trowell goal 10:08 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Brett Dalton was all over the ice for the Rockets, as he racked up two goals in the win. Dalton scored on the power play at 14:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Strathroy and again while on the power play 11:40 into the second to make the score 2-1 Strathroy.

Strathroy kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cornel Felder made 49 saves on 52 shots. The Rockets were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 12 chances.

Nick Griffin also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Kurtis Sander, Stuart King, Nick Boyer, and Mark MacAulay, who contributed one each.

Sarnia's offense operated below its season average. The Legionnaires put an average of 5.6 pucks into the net per game. Sarnia forced Strathroy goalie Mat Ouellet to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Legionnaires were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Sarnia also got a goal from Sam McCormack as well. More assists for Sarnia came via Riley Babkirk, Davis Boyer, and Kyler Keating, who each chipped in one.

Ouellet recorded 31 saves for the Rockets. Strathroy incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Sarnia registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nathan Mater was ejected from the game.
