Fort Erie vanquishes St. Catharines in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fort Erie Meteors defeated the St. Catharines Falcons in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

St. Catharines' power play was ineffective against Fort Erie's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Meteors were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 36 penalty minutes.

Fort Erie was helped by Josh Micallef, who finished with one goal. Micallef scored 11:01 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Fort Erie. Holden Garlent picked up the assist. Delcan Conway also scored for Fort Erie. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Bryce Martin and Tristan Drescher, who contributed one each.

The Falcons stifled the Meteors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Catharines was held below its usual level of production. The Falcons average 4.2 goals per game. St. Catharines kept Fort Erie's goalie busy throughout the game, and Liam Conway made 36 saves on 38 shots.

The Falcons were helped by Ryan Doucette, who grabbed one goal. Doucette scored on the power play 14:38 into the third period to make the score 2-2. St. Catharines had taken the advantage when the Meteors' Micallef got sent off for slashing. Broderick Kelly provided the assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Tyler Morrison as well. More assists for St. Catharines came via Tyler Jackson, Manny Manns, and Nick Halagian, who each chipped in one.

Fort Erie registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For the Meteors, Drescher was ejected from the game. Zach Moore rejected 23 shots on goal for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Falcons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Paolo De Sousa was ejected from the game.
