Cambridge holds on for 4-2 win against Brantford

The Cambridge Winter Hawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Brantford 99ers on the way to a 4-2 win.

Cambridge made the score 4-1 on a goal by Phil Caputo at 4:53 in the third period, and Brantford got as close as 4-2 when Matthew Woods scored 18:23 into the third period.

Mitch Atkins had one goal and two assists to lead the Winter Hawks. Atkins scored on the power play 57 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Cambridge. Maxime Lamontagne provided the assist.

Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Winter Hawks' offense rang up 54 shots on the 99ers' net. Cambridge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Others who scored for Cambridge included Stephen Jablonski and Jake Moggy, who each put in one. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Alex Bottigoni, who had three and Zach Magwood and Devin Shell, who contributed one each.

Brantford kept the Winter Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Owen Savory made 45 saves on 47 shots.

The 99ers were helped by Ryon Pereira, who racked up one goal. Pereira scored 12:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Keegan Alvestad assisted on the tally. More assists for Brantford came via Nolan Ferris, Cole Cummings, and Zander Pryor, who each chipped in one.

Cambridge registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Jack Moylan made 50 saves for Brantford on 54 shots. The 99ers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
