Guelph downs Brampton in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Guelph Hurricanes' Tristan Liggett scored 59 seconds into overtime to beat the Brampton Bombers, 3-2 (OT).

Guelph was sparked by Liggett, who had one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:47 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Hurricanes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. Guelph had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Guelph additionally got points from Peyton Backus, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Guelph also got a goal from Lawrence Pagnan as well. In addition, Guelph received assists from Matt Nightingale, Patrick Kudla, Brooker Muir, Ryan Migliaccio, and Jordan Hatzinger, who each chipped in one.

Brampton's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Bombers had been spending in the box.

Brampton was helped by Brad Bollert, who registered one goal. Bollert scored short handed 6:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Guelph. The Bombers found themselves down a man on Robert Orlando's unsportsmanlike conduct. Cameron Cruickshank also scored for Brampton. More assists for Brampton came via Kevin Bray and Mitchell Byrne, who contributed one each.

Liam Devine rejected 28 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Guelph registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Hurricanes, Craig Martini and Chad Herron were ejected from the contest. Shane Dietl made 27 saves for Brampton on 30 shots. The Bombers registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Brampton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Stapley was ejected from the game.
