Fort Erie rolls over Niagara Falls, 5-2

The Niagara Falls Canucks had trouble finding ways to stop the Fort Erie Meteors, which beat Canucks, 5-2.

Fort Erie pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

The Meteors were paced by Jarred Marino, who finished with one goal and one assist. Marino scored 6:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie.

Fort Erie forced Niagara Falls goalie Dylan Pietrangelo to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Meteors found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Fort Erie averages 2.7 goals per contest. The Meteors had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 15 chances.

Fort Erie also had goals scored by Devin Darrah, who had two and Dakota Miskolczi and Tristan Drescher, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Holden Garlent, Romaeo D Intino, and Wade Kenny, who contributed one each.

The Canucks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Niagara Falls surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Canucks' offense rang up 37 shots on Fort Erie's net. Niagara Falls was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of 10 man advantages.

The Canucks were led by Trevor Simonick, who registered one goal and one assist. Simonick scored 5:12 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Fort Erie. Austin Wright picked up the assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Zack Lansfield as well. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Mac Hollowell, who had one.

The Meteors' Liam Conway stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Dylan Pietrangelo made 28 saves for Niagara Falls on 33 shots. For the Canucks, Nigel Slade was ejected from the game.
