London beats St. Thomas 4-2 after comeback scare

The London Nationals survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Thomas Stars on the way to a 4-2 win.

London made the score 4-1 on a goal by Tanner Lafrance at 14:53 in the third period, and St. Thomas got as close as 4-2 when Dane Johnstone scored 15:45 into the third period.

The Nationals were paced by Derek Todosichuk, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Todosichuk scored 2:50 into the third period to make the score 3-1 London. Scott Goodman provided the assist.

London forced the Stars goalie Nikolas Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

London additionally got points from Drew Worrad, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin Kemp also scored for London. In addition, London received assists from Derek Di Iorio, Justin Murray, Kevin Madden, and Troy Taylor, who contributed one each.

St. Thomas managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Stars ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.

St. Thomas was helped by Carson Brookshaw, who finished with one goal. Brookshaw scored on the power play 8:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. The Stars had taken the advantage when the Nationals' Di Iorio got sent off for roughing. Carter McCormick assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were John Warren, who had two.

Logan Ferrington rejected 27 shots on goal for London. The Nationals incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Dampier recorded 33 saves for St. Thomas. The Stars registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
