Cambridge blows out Brampton, 6-1

The Cambridge Winter Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Brampton Bombers, and when the final buzzer sounded Winter Hawks emerged with a 6-1 win.

Brampton was stymied by Cambridge's netminder Lucas Machalski, who stopped 34 shots during the victory. The solid play of Machalski will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.74.

The Winter Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Cambridge gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:59 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Bombers were unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. The Winter Hawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Cambridge averages 2.7 goals per contest.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Alex Bottigoni, who registered one goal. Bottigoni scored on the power play 45 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cambridge. Maxime Lamontagne provided the assist. Cambridge additionally got points from Kyle Liu, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Lamontagne, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Cambridge also had goals scored by Zach Magwood and Jake Moggy, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Lucas Zitmanis, Jordan Chard, Devin Shell, and Phil Caputo, who each chipped in two.

Brampton forced Cambridge goalie Machalski to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

The Winter Hawks totaled 48 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 3-for-7 on the power play. For Cambridge, Zach Hedley and Josh Grant were ejected from the contest. The Bombers' Jake Lawr stopped 41 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Brampton ended with 45 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Bombers, Beau Goehram was ejected from the game.
