Welland beats St. Catharines 3-0 as Janzen gains shutout

The Welland Jr. Canadians used a sparkling performance by Chris Janzen to take down the St. Catharines Falcons, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Welland's 3-0 shutout victory.

The Jr. Canadians' penalty kill excelled, as Welland gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Jr. Canadians stifled St. Catharines' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Welland's offense rang up 38 shots on the Falcons' net.

The Jr. Canadians were helped by Mitch Reid, who racked up one goal. Reid scored 8:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Nathan MacDuff provided the assist. Others who scored for Welland included Thomas Flack and Kris Melna, who each put in one. In addition, Welland received assists from JC Thivierge, who had two and Riley Mocha, Cameron Aitken, and Jake Shaw, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines was held below its usual level of production. The Falcons put an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game.

Janzen rejected 25 shots on goal for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jonathan D Ilario recorded 35 saves for St. Catharines. The Falcons incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
