Pelham's comeback falls short, Niagara Falls wins 5-4Gale Centre Sat, Oct 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Falls Canucks came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Pelham Pirates, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory. Niagara Falls led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canucks' Frank Pucci scored at 5:39 in the second period to put Niagara Falls up 4-1. The Canucks forced Pirates' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Matthew Camilleri made 27 stops and Daniel Kocsis made zero. Niagara Falls' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Canucks were helped by Matthew Thorpe, who tallied one goal. Thorpe scored short handed 13 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-3 Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls also got points from Nigel Slade, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Trevor Simonick, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Matthew Baldinelli and Christian Lea, who contributed one each and Matthew Mannella and Mac Hollowell, who each chipped in two. Pelham kept Niagara Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joseph Murdaca made 29 saves on 33 shots. The Pirates were led by Riley O Connell, who racked up three goals. Pelham also got a goal from Riley Quesnelle as well. More assists for Pelham came via Anthony Sorrentino, who had two and Shawn Rooke, Cody LeVasseur, and Brock Ackerman, who contributed one each. The Canucks totaled 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Team's Austin Wright and Zachary Plumb were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Pelham totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Pirates, Jordan Wilson and Connor Schmalz were ejected from the contest.
