Thorold uses shootout to best Fort Erie, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Thorold Blackhawks defeated the Fort Erie Meteors in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Fort Erie got a shootout goal from Dakota Miskolczi. In addition to the clincher, Thorold got a shootout goal from Vito Scaringi.

The Blackhawks saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Thorold made the score 5-2 on a goal by Tyler Sehovic at 7:35 in the third period. The Meteors evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Miskolczi at 19:17 in the third period.

In the losing effort, Fort Erie was led by Richard DeMarco, who finished with one goal and two assists. DeMarco scored 14:15 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Thorold. Wade Kenny picked up the assist.

The Blackhawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Thorold averages 2.8 goals per contest. The defensemen of the Blackhawks were also effective in the Meteors' zone, and came away with two goals.

Thorold was helped by Anthony Postiglione, who tallied one goal. Postiglione scored 1:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Mitchell Mendonca provided the assist. Thorold also had goals scored by Dan Abbott, Connor Timmins, and Nick Sacco, who each put in one. More assists for Thorold came via Kyle Langdon, who had two and Greg Christmas, Nathan Dosa, Scaringi, Dawson Ethier, and Justin Whitwell, who contributed one each.

Fort Erie's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Thorold power plays. The Blackhawks were unable to stop the Meteors from sending pucks towards the net, and Fort Erie eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Meteors found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Fort Erie averages 2.6 goals per game.

Fort Erie additionally got points from Devin Darrah, who also registered one goal and two assists and Kenny, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Tristan Drescher also scored for Fort Erie. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Riley Hollowell, who had three and Bryce Martin and Hurren Alex, who each chipped in one.

Josh Astorino made 28 saves for Thorold on 33 shots. The Blackhawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Thorold, Sacco was ejected from the game. Liam Conway recorded 20 saves for the Meteors. Fort Erie incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
