Kitchener beats Stratford 5-4 after comeback scare

The Stratford Cullitons tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Kitchener Dutchmen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Kitchener made the score 5-2 on a goal by Keegan Calder at 6:26 in the third period, and Stratford got as close as 5-4 when Justin Graham scored 14:43 into the third period.

Jordan Delaurier had two goals to lead the Dutchmen to victory. Delaurier found the back of the net 7:20 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener and again while 15:28 into the second to make the score 4-2 Kitchener.

Kitchener's penalty kill unit could not stop the Cullitons' power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

Kitchener additionally got points from Calder, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Adam Kawalec, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Alex Demrovsky also scored for Kitchener. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Jackson McIntosh and Mitchell Smith, who each chipped in one and Philip Moser and Connor Cole, who contributed two each.

The Dutchmen were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Stratford also had goals scored by Deven Kropf, Mitch Brooks, and Patrick McKelvie, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stratford came via Jake Pleon, who had two and Josh Miller, Carter Allen, Shane O Brien, Trevor Sauder, Zach Van Louwe, and Tyson Baker, who each chipped in one.

McIntosh rejected 29 shots on goal for Kitchener. The Dutchmen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nic Hague was ejected from the game. Stratford took out Nicholas Caldwell after he had made 11 saves and installed Nick Redman in goal, where he finished with 10 saves and the loss. The Cullitons incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
