Guelph wins tough contest against Waterloo, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Guelph Hurricanes escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Waterloo Siskins.

Guelph gained the winning advantage on a goal by Peyton Backus 4:50 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Lawrence Pagnan had a great game for the Hurricanes, netting two goals. Pagnan scored at 10:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 10:39 into the first to make the score 2-1 Guelph.

More assists for Guelph came via Patrick Kudla, who had two and Sebastian Stangherlin, Brooker Muir, and Jordan Hatzinger, who contributed one each.

Guelph was unable to stop Waterloo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Siskins eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Waterloo was helped by Gary Mantz, who registered one goal. Mantz scored 9:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. Evan Kearns provided the assist. Waterloo also got points from Kearns, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Kyle Betts, Chase Campbell, and Danny Hanlon, who each chipped in one.

Jeremie Lintner made 34 saves for the Hurricanes on 36 shots. Guelph totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kudla was ejected from the game. Evgeny Kiselev recorded 22 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Team's Matt Martin and Connor Bodnar were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
