LaSalle vanquishes St. Thomas in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the LaSalle Vipers defeated the St. Thomas Stars in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. St. Thomas' shootout goal was scored by Spencer Hutchinson. In addition to the clincher, LaSalle got a shootout goal from Brett Primeau.

The Stars' power play was ineffective against the Vipers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

LaSalle excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Vipers kept St. Thomas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dan Black made 32 saves on 36 shots.

LaSalle was helped by Manny Silverio, who finished with one goal. Silverio scored on the power play 19:01 into the second period to make the score 3-2 LaSalle. The Vipers had gotten the advantage when the Stars' Dane Johnstone was sent off for slashing. Connor Rosaasen picked up the assist. LaSalle additionally got points from Daniel Beaudoin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. LaSalle also got a goal from Nikko Sablone as well. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Nick Gauvin, Chris Pignanelli, and Nathan Veres, who contributed one each.

St. Thomas was helped by Zach Grzelewski, who racked up one goal. Grzelewski scored 2:07 into the third period to make the score 3-3. John Warren provided the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Warren, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Carson Brookshaw also scored for St. Thomas. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Carson Moniz, Hutchinson, and Brett Van Dusen, who each chipped in one.

Eli Billing recorded 27 saves for LaSalle. The Vipers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For LaSalle, Korey Morgan was ejected from the game. The Stars incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. St. Thomas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan Babb was ejected from the game.
