The Welland Jr. Canadians relied on the scoring touch of Mitch Reid, who netted two goals, to beat the Fort Erie Meteors, 4-0. Reid scored at 8:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland and again while 1:24 into the second to make the score 2-0 Welland.Fort Erie's power play was ineffective against Welland's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. The Jr. Canadians' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Fort Erie power plays. Welland kept the Meteors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Sebastian Iannone made 36 saves on 40 shots. Welland additionally got points from Andy Paul, who also had one goal and one assist. Gabe Ruggi also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Jack Fitzgerald, Kris Melna, and Riley Mocha, who each chipped in one and Matt Cuglietta and Cameron Aitken, who contributed two each. Fort Erie put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Canadians to score on any of their eight power plays. The Meteors' offense operated below their season average. Fort Erie averages 2.4 goals per game. The Meteors' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Fort Erie finished with 26 penalty minutes. Welland's Brandon McCorriston stopped 24 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Jr. Canadians incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. For Welland, Mocha was ejected from the game.
