Welland outlasts St. Catharines, 4-2

The game between the Welland Jr. Canadians and the St. Catharines Falcons was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Welland emerged with a 4-2 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Kris Melna secured the win for the Jr. Canadians with a goal in the second period.

Josh Allan was all over the ice for Welland, as he registered two goals in the win. Allan scored at 14:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 19:39 into the third to make the score 4-2 Welland.

The defensemen of the Jr. Canadians were also effective in St. Catharines' zone, and came away with two goals.

Welland also got points from Melna, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Andy Paul, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Matt Cuglietta, Nathan MacDuff, and Cameron Aitken, who each chipped in one.

The Falcons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. St. Catharines did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Falcons put an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game.

St. Catharines was helped by Jake Evans, who finished with one goal. Evans scored 15:41 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Welland. Justin Felker picked up the assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Tyler Jackson as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Tyler Morrison, Broderick Kelly, and Brandon Cercone, who contributed one each.

Chris Janzen rejected 24 shots on goal for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Welland, Gabe Ruggi was ejected from the game. The Falcons' Jonathan D Ilario stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. St. Catharines incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
