Kitchener erases deficit to stun Elmira, 4-3

The Kitchener Dutchmen rallied from two goals down to secure a 4-3 win over the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Kitchener let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Dutchmen took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Keegan Calder at 18:12 in the first period. Kitchener found itself down 3-1 after Elmira's Cash Seraphim put the puck home at 8:17 in the third period. After evening things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Mitchell Smith at 13:47 in the third, the Dutchmen got the game-winner from Smith at 15:12 in the third period.

Smith had two goals and one assist to lead Kitchener.

The Dutchmen forced the Sugar Kings goalie Jonathan Reinhart to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Kitchener's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Dutchmen finished with 23 penalty minutes. Team could not crack Elmira's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Kitchener also got a goal from Nathan Grossi as well. More assists for Kitchener came via Jordan Delaurier, who had two and Kyle Ellis, Philip Moser, and Alex Demrovsky, who contributed one each.

The Sugar Kings' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Elmira surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 41 shots on Kitchener's net.

Elmira also got points from Mac Clutsam, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Alex Mutton also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Brodie Whitehead, Ethan Skinner, Mitch Klie, Eric Palazzolo, and Mitch Wright, who each chipped in one.

Jackson McIntosh made 38 saves for the Dutchmen on 41 shots. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scott Pedersen was ejected from the game. Elmira's Reinhart stopped 40 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Sugar Kings registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Elmira, Steven Jakiela was ejected from the game.
