Kitchener wins tough contest against Brantford, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Kitchener Dutchmen escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Brantford 99ers.

Kitchener gained the winning advantage on a goal by John Nay 2:24 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Dutchmen racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Kitchener had been spending in the box. The Dutchmen forced Brantford goalie Jack Moylan to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Kitchener also got points from Mitchell Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kitchener also had goals scored by Sean Allen and Adam Kawalec, who each put in one. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Philip Moser and Connor Cole, who contributed one each and Jordan Delaurier and Jeremy Kuehn, who each chipped in two.

The 99ers were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

Brantford was led by Gus Ford, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Ford scored on the power play 17:51 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The 99ers earned a power play opportunity when Nathan Grossi was put in the box for tripping. Zander Pryor provided the assist. Others who scored for Brantford included Trayvon Henry and Guy Polillo, who scored one goal each. More assists for Brantford came via Keegan Alvestad, who had one and Mitch Atkins, who had two.

David Lobsinger rejected 20 shots on goal for Kitchener. The Dutchmen registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jacob Cascagnette was ejected from the game. Moylan recorded 43 saves for Brantford. The 99ers registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. For Brantford, Paris Briscoe was ejected from the game.
