Listowel rips Guelph, 5-1

The Listowel Cyclones had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Guelph Hurricanes.

Guelph was stymied by Listowel's netminder Tyler Fassl, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Fassl managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.33 prior to the game.

The Cyclones were paced by Broedy Karelse, who had one goal. Karelse scored 15:04 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Listowel.

Listowel forced Hurricanes' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Liam Devine made 26 stops and Jeremie Lintner made two.

Listowel additionally got points from Derek Elliot, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Listowel also had goals scored by Tim Nauta, Kevin Gergley, and Ben Shelley, who scored one goal each. More assists for Listowel came via Ben VanOotegham, who had one and Chayse Herrfort, who had two.

The Hurricanes did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Guelph averages 3.1 goals per game.

The Hurricanes were led by Craig Martini, who scored the team's only goal. Martini scored on the power play 17:58 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Listowel. A hooking penalty on VanOotegham had put Guelph on the power play. Ryan Migliaccio picked up the assist.

The Cyclones incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hurricanes incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
