Ancaster vanquishes Thorold in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ancaster Avalanche defeated the Thorold Blackhawks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Thorold's shootout goal was scored by Vito Scaringi. Ancaster's other shootout goal was scored by Cooper Richards.

The Avalanche forced the Blackhawks goalie Josh Astorino to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Ancaster bested its season scoring average. The Avalanche average 2.5 goals per game. Ancaster could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Avalanche were led by Richards, who registered two goals. Richards scored the first of his two goals at 12:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ancaster. Richards' next tally made the score 4-3 Ancaster with 16:03 left in the third period. Others who scored for Ancaster included Cole Nagy and Ryan Cox, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Lucas Triemstra, Luke Zupan, Michael Faliero, and Spencer Leenders, who contributed one each.

Thorold kept Ancaster's goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Richards made 37 saves on 41 shots. The Blackhawks had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 11 chances.

Thorold was led by Scaringi, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Scaringi scored the first of his two goals at 9:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Aaron Nunes picked up the assist. Scaringi's next tally made the score 2-2 with 3:44 left in the second period. The Blackhawks had gotten the advantage when the Avalanche's Nagy was sent off for interference. Connor Timmins assisted on the tally. Thorold also got points from Nunes, who also had one goal and one assist. Thorold also got a goal from Mitchell Mendonca as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Nathan Dosa, who had one.

Ancaster registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Thorold's Astorino stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Blackhawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
