Waterloo survives Cambridge comeback, wins 6-4Galt Arena Gardens Sat, Oct 04, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cambridge Winter Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Waterloo Siskins held on for a 6-4 victory. Waterloo took a 6-2 lead during the third period, only to have Cambridge storm back on a Alex Bottigoni goal 17:44 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Siskins got the win thanks to a great game by Gary Mantz, who had one goal and four assists. Mantz scored on the power play 7:30 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Waterloo. A head contact penalty on Maxime Lamontagne had put Waterloo on the power play. Christian Mroczkowski picked up the assist. The Siskins had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 12 chances. Waterloo could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. Waterloo also got points from Mroczkowski, who also had one goal and one assist and Kyle Betts, who also registered one goal and one assist. Waterloo also had goals scored by Matt Doty, Brennan Blaszczak, and Chase Campbell, who each put in one. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Eric Cimino, Evan Kearns, Tommy Rietema, and Josh De Farias, who each chipped in one. The Winter Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game. Cambridge was helped by Jake Moggy, who finished with one goal and two assists. Moggy scored on the power play 9:51 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Waterloo. The Winter Hawks had taken the advantage when the Siskins' Anthony Guido got sent off for cross checking. Phil Caputo provided the assist. Cambridge additionally got points from Jordan Chard, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cambridge also got a goal from Devin Shell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Stephen Jablonski and Zach Magwood, who contributed one each. Bailey DeGasperis made 26 saves for Waterloo on 30 shots. The Siskins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Luke Gazzola was ejected from the game. Owen Savory rejected 19 shots on goal for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks registered three goals on eight power play opportunities.
