Stratford rolls over Guelph, 7-3

The Stratford Cullitons had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Guelph Hurricanes.

Stratford forced Hurricanes' netminders to work in net, racking up 40 shots and forcing 33 saves. Jeremie Lintner made 19 stops and Liam Devine made 14. The Cullitons' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Stratford averages 4.8 goals per contest.

The Cullitons were helped by Mitch Vandergunst, who registered one goal and one assist. Vandergunst scored 10:59 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Stratford. Patrick McKelvie picked up the assist. Stratford also got points from McKelvie, who also had one goal and one assist. Shane O Brien also scored for Stratford. In addition, Stratford received assists from Trevor Sauder, who had two and Joe Leahy, Deven Kropf, Jake Pleon, Hayden Broomhead, Nathan Templeman, Justin Graham, and Nicholas Caldwell, who contributed one each.

Guelph kept Stratford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Caldwell made 34 saves on 37 shots. The Hurricanes had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Guelph was helped by Chad Herron, who racked up one goal. Herron scored 1:24 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Stratford. Alex Remedios provided the assist. Guelph also had goals scored by Mackenzie Flewelling and Craig Martini, who scored one goal each. More assists for Guelph came via Sebastian Stangherlin, Patrick Kudla, and Ryan Migliaccio, who each chipped in one.

The Cullitons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Guelph ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sheehan Kirkwood was ejected from the game.
