Opblinger's hat trick boosts Leamington over St. Thomas, 4-3

A hat trick by Matthew Opblinger was the highlight in Flyers' 4-3 win against the St. Thomas Stars.

Opblinger's first goal came 9:15 into the second period. He then added goals at 5:28 into the third and at 19:57 into the third.

The Leamington Flyers stifled St. Thomas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Leamington forced the Stars goalie Nikolas Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Cale Phibbs also scored for Leamington. In addition, Leamington received assists from Blake Rutckyj, who had two and Blaine Bechard, Mitchell Amante, Kyle Quick, and Kyle Perkowski, who contributed one each.

St. Thomas kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Barrett made 33 saves on 36 shots.

The Stars were led by Zach Grzelewski, who racked up one goal and one assist. Grzelewski scored 2:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. Dane Johnstone provided the assist. St. Thomas also had goals scored by John Warren and Jordan Babb, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Josh Slegers, Adam Truax, and Wade Russell, who each chipped in one.

Leamington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Dampier recorded 39 saves for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
