Caledonia hangs on, beats Thorold 2-0

Connor Patton gave the Caledonia Corvairs the lead in the first period, and the Thorold Blackhawks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Caledonia took over the lead for good with a goal by Patton at 2:58 in the first period. Cosimo Fontana provided the assist.

The Corvairs' penalty kill excelled, as Caledonia gave up zero goals despite allowing 13 power plays.

The Corvairs were led by Patton, who registered one goal and one assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:47 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Caledonia was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game the Corvairs had been spending in the box. Caledonia stifled Thorold's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blackhawks were unable to stop the Corvairs from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledonia eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Caledonia additionally got points from Jake Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

Thorold's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Blackhawks surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game.

Brendan Polasek recorded 20 saves for the Corvairs. Caledonia registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Corvairs, Jacob Bianchi, Justin Abraham, and Todd Ratchford were ejected from the contest. Ian Shorthouse made 35 saves for Thorold on 37 shots. For the Blackhawks, Anthony Postiglione was ejected from the game.
