Sarnia rips LaSalle, 7-2Vollmer Recreation Complex Wed, Oct 01, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The LaSalle Vipers had trouble finding ways to stop the Sarnia Legionnaires, which beat Vipers, 7-2. Sarnia got the win thanks to a great game by Riley Babkirk, who had one goal and two assists. Babkirk scored 1:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia. Jordan Fogarty assisted on the tally. The Legionnaires forced LaSalle's goalies to work all game long, finishing with 36 shots and forcing 29 saves. Paolo Battisti made 13 stops and Eli Billing made 16. Sarnia had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Sarnia additionally got points from Davis Boyer, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Sarnia included Tyler Longo, Sam McCormack, Brandon Layman, Tyler Prong, and Kyler Keating, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Cody Trowell, who had two and Brad Campbell and Jake O`Donnell, who contributed one each. The Vipers' offense operated below their season average. LaSalle puts an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game. The Vipers forced the Legionnaires goalie Hunter Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. LaSalle was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 60 penalty minutes. The Vipers were helped by Manny Silverio, who finished with one goal. Silverio scored on the power play 9:00 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on PJ Vandervaart had put LaSalle on the power play. Chris Pignanelli picked up the assist. LaSalle also got a goal from Tyler Russell as well. Hunter Johnson made 35 saves for Sarnia on 37 shots. The Legionnaires incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Vipers registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
