Sarnia squeaks by Chatham, 7-5Chatham Memorial Arena Sun, Sep 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Sarnia Legionnaires gutted out a close 7-5 win against the Chatham Maroons. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Davis Boyer's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Boyer had a great game for Sarnia, netting two goals. The Legionnaires stifled Chatham's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Sarnia forced the Maroons goalie Bo Bessette to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Legionnaires' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Sarnia also got points from Cody Trowell, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Riley Babkirk, who also had one goal and one assist, and Cameron Clarke, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Sarnia also got a goal from Jay Clarke as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Ryan Trottier, who had two and Sam McCormack, Nathan Mater, Riley Roberts, Tyler Prong, and Kyler Keating, who contributed one each. Sarnia was unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Chatham was led by Brennan Feasey, who registered one goal and two assists. Feasey scored 15:43 into the first period to make the score 3-3. Nate Pietens assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Chatham included Trevor Richardson, Brayden Hopkins, Steven Beenackers, and Ian Faubert, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chatham received assists from Steven Szekesy, John Bowen, and Michael Levesque, who each chipped in one. Hunter Johnson recorded 37 saves for the Legionnaires. Sarnia incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Maroons' Bessette stopped 34 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Chatham incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
