GAME RECAP

Barrett, Leamington blank Strathroy, 3-0

West Middlesex Arena    Sat, Sep 27, 2014

Michael Barrett made 30 saves to complete the shutout and led the Leamington Flyers to a 3-0 win against the Strathroy Rockets.

Leamington's penalty kill excelled, as the Flyers gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Leamington was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Flyers had been spending in the box. Leamington stifled Strathroy's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers' defensive effort looked to be improved. Leamington allows 2.3 goals per game. The Rockets were unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

The Flyers were helped by Mitchell Amante, who finished with one goal and one assist. Amante scored 8:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Zack Guilbeault picked up the assist. Eric Henderson also scored for Leamington. In addition, Leamington received assists from Jacob McGhee, who had two and Kyle Quick and Thomas Virban, who contributed one each.

Strathroy could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Rockets put an average of 2.3 pucks into the net per game. Strathroy struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Leamington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colin Moore was ejected from the game. Mat Ouellet rejected 35 shots on goal for the Rockets.
