Caledonia beats Ancaster 3-1 after comeback scare

The Ancaster Avalanche tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Caledonia Corvairs held on for a 3-1 victory.

A goal by Riley Vanhorne put Caledonia up 3-0 in the second period, but Ancaster pulled to within two on Brett Farrelly's tally 8:46 into the third period.

The Corvairs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Caledonia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Corvairs' offense rang up 44 shots on the Avalanche's net. The defensemen of Caledonia were also effective in Ancaster's zone, and came away with two goals.

The Corvairs were helped by Justin Abraham, who had one goal. Abraham scored short handed 9:05 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. Caledonia played down a man on Austin McEneny's roughing. Matthew Hore also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Nathan Gomes, Tyler Lepore, and Jacob Buch, who each chipped in one.

The Avalanche could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

In addition, Ancaster received assists from Michael Pollice and Max Balinson, who contributed one each.

Kevin Entmaa recorded 19 saves for the Corvairs. Caledonia registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Kolaski was ejected from the game. Ancaster's Matt Calas stopped 41 shots out of the 44 that he faced.
