Fort Erie hangs on, beats Niagara Falls 3-1

The Fort Erie Meteors beat the Niagara Falls Canucks, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Fort Erie took over the lead for good with a goal by Hurren Alex at 17:29 in the first period. Delcan Conway picked up the assist.

The Meteors were paced by Alex, who had one goal.

Niagara Falls was unable to stop Fort Erie from sending pucks towards the net, and the Meteors eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Fort Erie's power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having 10 power play opportunities.

Fort Erie also got points from Holden Garlent, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fort Erie also got a goal from Romaeo D Intino as well. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Bryce Martin, who had two and Tristan Drescher and Christain Nati, who each chipped in one.

The Canucks stifled the Meteors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Niagara Falls was held below its usual level of production. The Canucks average 4.5 goals per game. Niagara Falls was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes.

The Canucks were led by Mac Hollowell, who scored the team's only goal. Hollowell scored on the power play 13:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Niagara Falls had gotten the advantage when Fort Erie's Devin Darrah was sent off for high sticking. Austin Wright assisted on the tally.

Sebastian Iannone recorded 20 saves for the Meteors. Fort Erie incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Joeseph Murdaca made 28 saves for the Canucks on 31 shots. Niagara Falls registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
