Welland blows out Pelham, 6-2

The Welland Jr. Canadians were firing on all cylinders against the Pelham Pirates, and when the final buzzer sounded Jr. Canadians emerged with a 6-2 win.

Jake Shaw had a great game for Welland, netting two goals. Shaw scored at 9:21 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Welland and again while on the power play 8:29 into the third to make the score 6-2 Welland.

In a losing effort, Pelham was led by Anthony Sorrentino, who racked up two goals. Sorrentino scored the first of his two goals at 15:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Welland. Brock Ackerman assisted on the tally. Sorrentino's next tally made the score 4-2 Welland with one second1 seconds left in the second period. The Pirates had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Canadians' Matt Cuglietta was sent off for spearing. Ackerman picked up the assist.

Welland forced Pelham goalie Matthew Camilleri to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Welland also got points from Nathan MacDuff, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Welland also got a goal from Matt Martin as well. More assists for Welland came via Francois Plamondon, who had three, Caleb Ambrosio APM, Josh Allan, and Tyler Stranges, who each chipped in one, and JC Thivierge and Andy Paul, who contributed two each.

Other players who recorded assists for Pelham were Jesse Hewak and Riley O Connell, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Canadians' Brandon McCorriston stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Welland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matthew Camilleri made 37 saves for the Pirates on 43 shots. Pelham incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
