Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Stratford Cullitons in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams.Elmira came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Sugar Kings trailed 2-0 after a short handed goal by Stratford's Mitch Brooks at 6:22 in the second period. Elmira knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Zac Coulter at 9:41 in the second period. The Sugar Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Elmira gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. The Sugar Kings could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Elmira puts an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 36 shots on the Cullitons' net. Elmira was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. Eric Palazzolo also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Mitch Klie and Harrison Domagala, who contributed one each. Stratford did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Cullitons average 4.3 goals per game. Stratford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. Stratford also got a goal from Jake Pleon as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Jared Nash, Shane O Brien, and Zach Van Louwe, who each chipped in one. The Sugar Kings' Jonathan Reinhart stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Elmira registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Nicholas Caldwell made 33 saves for the Cullitons on 35 shots.
