St. Catharines squeaks by Ancaster, 4-2Morgan Firestone Sat, Sep 20, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the St. Catharines Falcons escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Ancaster Avalanche. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Nicholas Dozzi secured the win for St. Catharines with a goal in the third period. Dozzi had a great game for the Falcons, netting two goals. St. Catharines' offense rang up 32 shots on Ancaster's net. St. Catharines additionally got points from Tyler Jackson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nicholas Prestia also scored for St. Catharines. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Tyler Hildebrant, who had one and Tyler Morrison and Ryan Doucette, who contributed two each. The Avalanche's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Ancaster finished with 48 penalty minutes. The Avalanche were helped by Ryan Cox, who racked up one goal. Cox scored 17:21 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Ancaster also got a goal from Cooper Richards as well. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Luke Zupan and Cole Nagy, who each chipped in one. Jonathan D Ilario rejected 17 shots on goal for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ancaster's Matt Calas stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Avalanche registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Ancaster ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Aaron St. Pierre was ejected from the game.
