Trowell nets hat trick, leads Sarnia to 9-4 win over St. Thomas

Cody Trowell netted a hat trick to lead the Sarnia Legionnaires over the St. Thomas Stars, 9-4.

Trowell's first goal came 5:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 52 seconds into the second and at 15:15 into the third.

Sarnia led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring four goals in the second.

The Legionnaires forced Stars' goaltenders to work all game long, ripping 32 shots and forcing 23 saves. Dan Black made 10 stops and Nikolas Dampier made 13. Sarnia's goal total was higher than its season average. The Legionnaires have scored at the pace of 5.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of Sarnia were also effective in St. Thomas' zone, and came away with three goals.

Sarnia also got points from Nathan Mater, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Riley Roberts, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Brad Campbell also scored for Sarnia. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Davis Boyer, who had three, Jay Clarke, ODonnell Jake, Cameron Clarke, Ryan Trottier, PJ Vandervaart, and Tyler Prong, who each chipped in one, and Bobby King and Brandon Layman, who contributed two each.

The Stars were helped by Jordan Babb, who registered one goal and two assists. Babb scored on the power play 1:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. St. Thomas had gained a power play chance when Jake was whistled for delay of game. Blair Mincer picked up the assist. St. Thomas additionally got points from Carson Moniz, who also finished with one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from John Warren as well. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Wade Russell, who had three.

The Legionnaires' Hunter Johnson stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Sarnia incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Stars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For St. Thomas, Spencer Hutchinson was ejected from the game.
