Cambridge beats Brantford 5-3 as Lamontagne gets hat trick

Maxime Lamontagne netted a hat trick to lead the Cambridge Winter Hawks over the Brantford 99ers, 5-3.

Lamontagne's first goal came 13:50 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:31 into the second and at 19:52 into the third.

Cambridge's penalty kill excelled, as the Winter Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Cambridge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cambridge also got points from Phil Caputo, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kalob Witzell also scored for Cambridge. More assists for Cambridge came via Zach Magwood, who had two and Parker Wood, Emmerson Small, Jordan Chard, Kyle Liu, Jake Moggy, Devin Shell, and Alex Bottigoni, who contributed one each.

Brantford kept the Winter Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Owen Savory made 29 saves on 32 shots.

The 99ers were led by Cole Cummings, who had one goal and two assists. Cummings scored 2:46 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Zander Pryor picked up the assist. Brantford additionally got points from Pryor, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brantford also got a goal from Paris Briscoe as well. In addition, Brantford received assists from Nolan Ferris and Keegan Alvestad, who each chipped in one.

Cambridge registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Mathieu Kingsley rejected 22 shots on goal for Brantford. The 99ers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
